Pull down menus don't work on new install

I read thread "pull down menu" but solutions did not work, several installation guides reference the pull down menus and I have no access to the menu

Re-run the installer and pick the "update" option. It will scan your install to see if you are missing any default files and replace them.

Try removing any addons as they could be interfering. Otherwise a screenshot might help, and you will need to attach a copy of the log.txt for more info on your set up.
