Hi, guys

I searched the forum but could not find anything likewise so I am posting here. The problem here is, that x Plane crashes when playing X Plane 11 demo version while mirroring it to a 21"Samsung Monitor. There is no crash report window or likewise. Also I haven't found any crash reports. The game quits straight into the login Screen of Mac OSX

How to reproduce?

- connect external Samsung screen via HDMI cable

- Launch X Plane

- see  the start screen of the game for a couple of seconds

- game quits to Mac OSX login screen

What have I tried so far?

- disconnect HDMI cable (game works flawlessly)

- tried other HDMI cables (same issue)

- Tried with another Mac Book on another screen (works fine...)

Tech specs of my machine:

- Mac Book Pro (Retina - 15 inch, Mid 2015)

- Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

- Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

- Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB (built in Graphics card)

- Mac OSX 10.13.3

Tech specs for second Mac (which work fine):

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012)

Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 3210M “Ivy Bridge” (Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz)

Memory: 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536MB RAM (Shared with main memory)

- Mac OSX 10.13.3

Does anyone had the same issue and can let me know how to resolve it or does anyone have any ideas? I am willing to buy the game as soon as the issue is resolved but not before.

Thanks in advance.

Christian

It sounds like the sim works when you only use the laptop. I'm surprised it crashes before getting to the settings screen to configure the 2nd monitor. It could be something with how the 2nd monitor is configured in the OS settings, or X-Plane could be overloaded by trying to draw on both screens. In general, if the machine is shutting down (I'm unsure how else it would just log out to the sign in screen) it is due to hardware failure--X-Plane can't shut down the machine or log out on its own.

You are correct--the full version will perform exactly the same though so you should not purchase it if it doesn't work as you desire. One thing you can try is resetting to default preferences in case there is a bad screen pref saved: Move the preferences folder (found in the Output folder) to the desktop, then restart X‑Plane and default preferences will be restored. If the default preferences do not fix your problem, you can simply replace them with the folder you moved to the desktop and restore your personalized settings.

HI jroberts,

thanks first of all for the answer. I forgot to mention that I only have one external screen running. The Mac Book Pro screen is closed so there technically only one screen involved. Also, what I don't understand a second person tried to mirror it with an older Mac Book to a 42" Samsung TV and it worked fine (ok forget the frame rate but thats another story...

I tried the steps outlined above and it still has the same issue. Funnily sometimes (1 out of 10-20 times) it works and I am able to fly etc. But I absolutely don't have a clue what settings to make?! Any help would be more than appreciated.

Can you walk me through the exact steps you take to set up the machines and start X-Plane, for both when it works and when it crashes? Maybe that will help me understand the set up better.

Of course I gladly will but first to your shutdown theory:

Even though Mac machines with Flash drives are booting at a lightning speed, it takes barely three seconds between the blank black screen and then to a login screen. What speaks for your theory is the fact that every website and program has to be reloaded.

Now for the step by step guide of how to crash your Mac System ;-) (btw X PLane is the first program to ever fulfil this to that stage to any of my macs...):

- Start up your Mac

- connect Mac Book Pro via HDMI cable to second screen

- close MacBook screen and only work with the mirroring screen

- download XP11 demo version

- install it

- go to the XP 11 folder

- Start XP11 with the Icon inside the folder

- Alternative 1: wait 3-5 seconds and welcome to your Mac OSX login screen.

- Alternative 2: play XP 11 on a 42" screen (if you can live with a VERY low framerate and if you want to use your MacBook as a heater you can do this at the sane.

Ha! I found a log report.... Pasting it contents below:

Any news?

Hi Christian,

I finally got a chance to try this today. I attached my MBA to an external monitor and tried both X-Plane 11.11 & 11.20. I was not able to reproduce a crash in either version while using the sim on only the external monitor, with the laptop closed.
