Can I appoint all flap settings to one button by pushing it each time I want another degree of flaps. The same can be said for trim. i.e. Push button 4 for 1 degree of flaps up then button 4 again for the next degree of flaps up & the same with button 3 but it adjusts the flaps down in each degree required until back to zero. The same with trim up & down. & the same with braking. Hit button 1 for a stab at the brake & either continue stabbing it to stop or leave it alone for the aircraft to continue moving. Many many more options for us but with a lot fewer buttons to find & push.

I have these settings on my FSX but then X-Plane probably wants to remain unique, yes!

Yes! :)

For flaps, you can assign it to do precisely what you said; I personally recommend using a "two-button" switch if available, but using two buttons for there purpose of notches is fine.

For trim, I believe the same applies, though I have not tried it myself.

Button mapping is visually a littler different than FSX, but in my experience, I find that the X-Plane mapping is more sophisticated than that of FSX. More customizability.
