The updater file on the X-Plane site, found at  http://www.x-plane.com/x-plane_10_installer-updater/ does not let me update from 10 to 11. There is no update button in the "About X Plane" section either. Please help!

You cannot upgrade X-Plane 10 to X-Plane 11; you'll have to install X-Plane 11 to a new directory. Start downloading the X-Plane 11 installer for your platform.

When I used the X Plane 11 installer, it told me that my code was for an "older version of X Plane" (meaning XP10 which I bought about 2 years ago). What should I do then?

Hi bv9900,

Buy X-Plane 11 it from Laminar Research if you want to upgrade from 10 to 11.

I bought X Plane 10 from them. My understanding was I could update to future versions for free, was this incorrect?

Thank you for purchasing X-Plane 10+11 as a Digital Download!

Your X-Plane Product Key—good for both X-Plane 10 and X-Plane 11—is:

X-Plane 10/11 Product Key: XXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

Save this product key in a safe place, and keep it private, because you'll need it to install X-Plane. (And you'll need it again if you ever want to install X-Plane on a new computer!)

Some distributions came with a key for both 10 and 11, just download the installer for xplane 11 and try if your Product key works! Xplane 11 is not a update, its a new version.

Mmm... It simply told me my code was for an older version when I entered it into the XP11 installer (I did that before coming here). The window told me to go to customer service, so I guess I'll do that now. I just hoped that there was a simpler way- thank you for your help, I appreciate it!

Ok, then you have a XP10 Licence key only and need to purchase a new licence for XP11

But I thought future versions came free? This makes no sense... I'll just wait and see what customer service has to say. Thanks!

Hi bv9900,

I am not with Laminar Research; just a flight simmer.

The arrangement you query was a special deal to encourage the purchase of XP10 with the sweetner of then getting XP11 for a low price overall when it was released.  At that time XP11 was about to be released but the release date was uncertain.

Once XP11 was released the "buy one, get one free" deal ceased with the purchases like yourself taking up the offer with the freeby.  Any new purchases were for XP11 and had to be purchased as a new product.  There are many comments in this forum about the confusion.

If you think you have been "hard done by" then contact Laminar Research at [email protected]  .  When you do make sure you provide receipt numbers, date of purchase, method of purchase etc to confirm your purchase.

Cheers

Glenn
