Crash at installation

Question

The original X-11 Disk 1 installer has been crashing immediately.  I get a C0000417 and a c0000005 error message popup.  The error log does show up on the desktop, but it's completely blank. XPlane sent me a replacement DVD which I just got (thank you!) but it too is giving the same error.

C0000005 is an APPCRASH. fault module is ntdll.dll

C0000417 is a BEX64 fault. module is X-Plane 11 Installer.exe

Any ideas what may be wrong?

My system is an i7 8 cpu core 16G RAM 200G SSD + 3 HDDs

I've verified that I have the latest update with Win7 and supposedly all dlls are current and valid.

In general, I would recommend using the latest installer from X-Plane.com if possible. The installer on the disc may be older and not have some bug fixes or features. 

If the latest installer also crashes, please attach a copy of the installer log.txt from the desktop to a comment here for investigation. A screenshot of the error warning will also be helpful

I did download the online installer (the 3.0 version) - same exact problem.  There is NO log file content.  The file is created on the desktop but there is nothing in it.  I suspect I am missing a dll that is linked into the installer... so if anyone knows what dlls are linked into the installer exe that could help me chase down whatever might be missing.

I'll see about getting a pic of the error... but it is exactly what I've said above.

I haven't heard of this problem before, or these errors. The only other advice I have would be to make sure your graphics card is up to date. Without any sort of log.txt we don't have any info on your system either--did you ensure you meet at least the minimum hardware requirements for X-Plane 11? I assume you did not try the demo first, as it uses the same installer.

Yes, the graphics card is up to date.  I can run XP 9 and 10 fine.  But perhaps a little background is due.  I'm a developer and have been using VS2015.  I recently upgraded to 2017 and because my C drive is an SSD - 200Gbytes - I do not have room for a complete VS2017 install.  M$ insists that Visual Studio goes on the C drive.  In my mistaken belief I could delete VS2015 and have room for 2017, I probably deleted some dll in the process which is preventing XP11 from installing.  The error codes given indicate that the installer is attempting to load something at an address in RAM that does not exist.  It *has* to be a missing dll... though what it is I do not know.  <sigh> Well, I suppose I either do a complete re-install of everything including win7 (or maybe upgrade to win10 - though I'm afraid that will want even more room on my C drive) or I do without XP-11 until I do.

AFA meeting XP-11 requirements - my specs were listed in my original post and yes I exceed them.
