Is there a way to start X-Plane 10 with additional diagnostics for incomplete start-up?

Although I have purchased X-Plane 11Beta, I'm running X-Plane 10 for libc compatibility reasons.

I was able to run in demo mode until a few days ago.  No changes to my computer in the meantime.  Now it hangs on splash screen at "Starting Application".  Terminal in which it was started shows a couple HTTP connections to lookup.x-plane.com and ends with "Connection #0 to host lookup.x-plane.com left intact."  Log.txt ends with "Loaded: /d1/Xplane/X-Plane 10/Resources/plugins/PluginAdmin/64/lin.xpl (xpsdk.examples.pluginadmin)".  Data.txt and Cycle Dump.txt get created but have no content.  Behavior is exactly repeatable.

I'm running this under Fedora 23 with an NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT with the nvidia driver.

Also, there's an error in the documentation.  The hyperlink on p.122 "Troubleshooting X-Plane" is to a meaningless "local" file on the doc developer's machine: file:///Users/JenniferRoberts/Documents/X-Plane/Manuals%20and%20Documentation/Manuals/Desktop/#troubleshootingx-plane

Here's a developer article on some command line options. It has not been updated in a while but I believe most or all of these worked in X-Plane 10.
