I am interested in using X-Plane for mountain flying training. Is X-Plane modelling wind conditions as mountain wave according to present scenary? Are performances of the aircraft being affected by density altitude? Orographic lifting and other phenomena?

Thanks in advance.

No, it´s not that detailed. There is some lift generated by wind flowing over mountain ridges (orographic lifting), but no downdraft on the lee side, rotary movements, etc.

The effect of density altitude is modeled, but not the "true altitude" effect of ISA temperature deviation.

It might still be of use with regards of judging valley geometry, calculating climb gradients, high altitude airport landings, etc.

Good luck, Jan
