Unlike Thomson I am not from Laminar Research; just a flight simmer.

If Thomson's advice works good luck.

However I would suggest you look at the following link found at

Many serious flight simmers "build" a system that is equal to or of greater specifications than the recommended system.  You have a DX9 card(?).  Check the specifications.  You also need to ensure you have a dedicated graphics card.  

X-plane will not work if you connect to the graphics connection on the motherboard.  X-Plane is resource hungry in both the CPU and the GPU  The graphics card (GPU) will reduce the "grunt" power available for the CPU.

If you find you need a new purpose built PC I would suggest you go for an Intel CPU and NVidia GPU for better performances.  Other known formats do not work as well.
