Hi,

after running fine for several weeks, X-Plane 11.02 now refuses to start. I've removed the preferences folder and tried a new install (I know, shouldn't be necessary)

It does not crash, it idles with 0% CPU usage and I have to kill the process via kill -HUP pid

There have been no driver updates. All I did was (to the best of my recollection) play around with the frequency governor settings and rebooted once.

The only indications I have is the line

0:00:00.000 E/PRF: Failed to restore custom screen resolution. Monitor 0 does not appear to support a resolution of 32618x0.

in the Log.txt. No error messages besides that.

and the lines

UNSAFE
AUTO_UPDATE
UNSAFE

in Output/preferences/X-Plan Screen Res.prf

this was after trying to load the X-Plane Basics training mission in a brand new install.

My single monitor is HDMI, native 1920x1080.

The last lines in the Log.txt are

0:00:20.739 D/STM: Transitioning from state state_InitialLoading to state_QuickFlightWizard
0:00:20.739 I/WIN: Opened window Primary V11 UI
0:00:21.175 I/MIS: Handling Event: mission_event_load
0:00:21.175 I/MIS: Changing State From: mission_state_unloaded to mission_state_loading
0:00:21.175 I/MIS: Starting mission: X-Plane Basics
0:00:25.024 D/STM: Transitioning from state state_QuickFlightWizard to state_NormalLoading
0:00:25.024 I/ACF: Loading airplane number 0 with Aircraft/Laminar Research/Cessna 172SP/Cessna_172SP.acf
Fetching plugins for /home/harry/X-Plane 11-2/Aircraft/Laminar Research/Cessna 172SP/plugins

Loaded: /home/harry/X-Plane 11-2/Aircraft/Laminar Research/Cessna 172SP/plugins/xlua/64/lin.xpl (com.x-plane
.xlua.1.0.0b1).

and that's where it hangs indefinitely.

Grateful for any pointers / where to take it from here / how to get more debugging info!

Hi, can you include the whole log.txt please?
And what's your Linux distribution? Not all distributions are supported by Laminar Research.

Sure, it's Linux Mint 18.2  I actually thought no specific distros at all were supported!

And no crash report, since it didn't actually crash. Would it help to induce one?

Well, I have no skill to answer that..

I figured it out - it was a faulty xorg.conf configuration - I have no idea how that happened. The desktop really doesn't give much of an indication but after a reboot (which one doesn't do all that much running Linux) it was clear that some other, X-11 related things did not work. Somehow the effects were not obvious on the cinnamon desktop.

Lesson: there will be no indication in the log.txt if the x-server is not configured correctly.
