Installing download version of X Plane 10 on Ubuntu 14.04, 64 Bit

Question

The X-Plane Downloader downloaded and is now on my Ubuntu desktop, but it's an executable file.  Ubuntu says executable files are not supported.  Not sure what to do, need help with the steps!  Thanks!

Did you download the correct file type? Ideally the blue download button on the webpage will detect the correct operating system for Mac or Windows, but I'm not positive it does the same for Linux. If not, go to this page and to the right of the blue download button are green links to download for either 32 or 64 bit Linux systems.
