What can I do when X-plane 11.20 keeps crashing or freezing the moment the aircraft and scenery finishes loading?

I just updated to x-plane 11.20, but every time I open the app on my Mac, the simulator freezes or crashes once I see the aircraft and scenery appear on the screen. I watched a few guides on youtube and I was told to delete the preferences folder to 'reset' the simulator. The same problem kept occurring.

edit: if u use plugins, see your log file and try to delete corrupt ones or maybe all of them
