i have just purchased xplane 11 and installed it.  it was fine at first but now sometimes when i am in flight school my computer will crash and go to a blue screen telling me problem has been detected and windows has shut down

it refers to a process or thread crucial to system operation  has been terminated.

Have you any ideas. I am new to flight sim and not into gaming  Regards Terry

Hi Terry,

I am not with Laminar Research; just a flight simmer.  A few issues

Firstly attach your log.txt file to this initial query as will provide a lot of information about your system.  The file is automatically created and updated every time you run x-plane.

Does your PC meet the minimum requirements or the recommended requirements?  The serious flight simmers build a PC unit equal to or of higher specifications than the recommended requirements.  Details of the system requirements can be found here at https://www.x-plane.com/kb/x-plane-11-system-requirements/

What is not mentioned is good cooling is required as X-Plane generates a lot of heat in the processor (CPU) and the graphics card (GPU).  The CPU should have its own cooling system connected (integrated).  There should be good case cooling particularly for the GPU  The power supply should have its own cooling system.

If you are running a laptop it should be designated as a "gaming" laptop and it should have a good in-built cooling system.

From my experience many years ago I also experienced a "Blue Screen" scenario which will occur without warning  a short time after starting the PC.  It was due to inadequate cooling of the CPU and insufficient case cooling.  I am of the opinion that this may be your problem.  You may need to upgrade your system.

In the first instance attach your log.txt file for a deeper interrogation by others more experienced than me in running X-Plane.

Good luck in solving your problem.

Glenn
