I am constructing a simple "sit in" simulator for myself.

I'm setting up two networked PCs using X-plane 10. I'm purchasing the DVD for the first machine which will be connected to two large format monitors (in dual display mode) that will display scenery only. I'm purchasing a USB key for the second machine which will be a smaller display and only display the Instrument panel so scenery will not be needed. Does this sound like a good workable approach?

Hi Dubbbster,

I am not from Laminar Research, just a flight simmer.

For starters if you are running X-Plane on two machines at the same time  you will need 2 licences.  The software has built in "tweeks" that checks for authorised versions.  It will detect if you are running two copies.

If you are starting out with X-Plane why not start with X-Plane 11.  X-plane 10 is no longer modified with updates.  The last/final version of XP10 ceased when XP11 was released.

Although I never tried to network XP10 and run two screens my recollection tells me from sources in Laminar Research and other experienced flight simmers or X-Plane PC builder it was difficult to do so.

Networking 2 PCs is far easier in XP11 and my memory also tells me it was touted as being one of the new benefits of XP11.

If you do decide to purchase  XP11 go for the official digital download from Laminar Research (X-plane).  Unlike XP10, there is no USB dongle available for the XP11 disc version.   Don't waste your money on Steam.  It is a 3rd party hybrid taking a commercial advantage of the development work by Laminar . Updates are always behind the official releases from Laminar Research.

Good luck with the project.

Glenn
