I am trying to narrow down why X plane 11 crashes in VR. On long flights, I start up the Samsung Odyssey headset and then Steam VR. I get the sim ready for flight and then I enable VR on Xplane. After about 15 mins or so, I disable VR and go back to 2D and go do the things I have to do.  Towards the end of the flight I will enable VR again and land the sim. Unfortunately, it will sometimes quit, leaving me looking at a semi-circle of arcs inside the headset, and quite often nothing in the log text file. My frame rate in VR is between 32fps and 48fps depending on where I am. Today, just to see what happens, I flew the same flight in 2D completely maxed out (frame rate between 25 and 36 fps) and it ran the complete flight perfectly. So, the crashing has nothing to do with my settings. However, I do not use the controllers and prefer to use the mouse cursor which I can toggle on or off; I don`t know if that would have any effect on things. Anyway, I am at my wits`end trying to figure out what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love flying in VR. I am tempted to try Flyinside and see if that works better than Steam VR.

Hi Zaphod1955

I'm not with Laminar Research, just a fellow simmer in the UK and I don't profess to being an expert, especially with VR!

However, it may still be worth uploading your X-Plane Log.txt file to this Q&A forum, just so that others with more knowledge than myself can have a look through it. If you need any help with uploading, please me know?

Also, please be aware that Flyinside is no longer being developed for X-Plane and therefore is not supportive of any release from 11.30 onward, as per the following news link on their website;_ https://flyinside-fsx.com/News

Thank you for the reply, Greenglofer15. I have uploaded log.txt files and crash reports to LR, but they have no suggestions (the crashes were too random), and I had forgotten that Flyinside is no longer supported.  However, I think I have sorted it all out. I posted the following in  X Plane forum last night:

With the Samsung Odyssey headset the order of operations is as follows:

1) Start up the headset, then Steam VR, set up your aircraft, enable VR in X Plane 11 and go fly.

2) If you disengage VR in midflight, after 10 minutes the headset goes to sleep and Steam VR completely switches off and the sound returns to the computer. If you choose to re-enter VR during the flight, you must do the following: wake up the headset, start up Steam VR again and THEN enable VR in X Plane 11.

So far, I have had no problems moving in and out of VR using this method. I hope this helps someone else out. :)
