How to request another runway for landing?

Hi

Last night I had a funny issue with X-Plane 11.31. Built-in ATC instructed me for RW36 ILS approach at YMLT. RW36 at YMLT is a grass strip and doesn't have ILS. If I could disagree with ATC and request another approach, I could have saved the flight, but I had to cancel my IFR before landing as there was no way I could land an MD-80 on such a short grass strip. Can we somehow renegotiate with ATC?

Actually I think ATC knowing your aircraft (and the airport), it should assign a reasonable runway.
