Hi,

I have a 4k imac with and Intel Core i5(3,1ghz), 8 GB RAM and Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200. As a big fan of airplanes games simulations i will love to play this game but doesnt seem that my iMac could manage that. So i start searching options to make it possible.

I saw the possibility of eGpu, but not sure if with a better graphics i could ran this game.

Hope to see more mac gamers!

Thank you

Hi Theboss0075

I'm not with Laminar Research, just a fellow simmer in the UK :-)

A good quality graphics card is important and will no doubt help to bring out the best of X-Plane 11 and your flying experience.

However, I was communicating with another simmer on this Q&A platform the other day and he was adamant that his iMac, which was very similar to yours in terms of specification, worked perfectly, despite it being at the low end of LR's minimum hardware requirements. Please see following URL: https://www.x-plane.com/kb/x-plane-11-system-requirements/

With regard to the use of eGPU's, I have not had any experience personally, but I guess it will come down to the spec of the eGPU and the data transfer rates from an external device and your iMac's motherboard?

It may be worth trying out your iMac as it stands therefore and make a decision on purchasing a eGPU afterwards, as they do appear to be very expensive.

Sorry I can't be of more help :-(

Hi!,

I found in your url a demo link and unexpectedly it woks in my iMac!!!!!! The simmer was right!

The idea of eGPU isnt possible because my mac have thunderbolt 2 and with High Sierra doesnt work.

Now i need to find a controller compatible with my iMac, because i tried with my mouse and dont liked it. Do you know any?

Thank you for your help

Done!

You know a controller for Xplane11 compatible with mac?

Many thanks, much appreciated :-)

In terms of controllers, are you looking for a joystick or yolk/rudder pedals?

I know that there are many configuration files deep in the X-Plane 11 file directory that provides simmers with an opportunity to use just about any USB based flight controller.

From that source, below is a list of what they call 'known joysticks' & below that 'known yolks'.

I use the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS joystick and the Logitech Pro Flight Yolk/Rudders/Throttles, as per photos also below.

WHATEVER CONTROLLER YOU PURCHASE, REMEMBER TO CALIBRATE IT WITHIN X-PLANE 11's OWN CONFIGURATION PAGE AND NOT IN THE MAC OPERATING SYSTEM!

Joysticks

Logitech 3D Pro
T.Flight Hotas
T.Flight Stick X
Logitech Attack 3
Mad Catz F.L.Y.5 Stick
SideWinder Precision 2
T.16000M

Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino Stick
Cyborg
Saitek Cyborg USB Stick

Logitech Freedom 2.4

Logitech Force 3D Pro
WingMan Force 3D
Joystick - HOTAS Warthog
WingMan Extreme Digital 3D
WingMan Extreme 3D

Wow thank you very much for everything.

At least one of the joysticks must be mac compatible xd.

Hi again

Most of the listed flight controllers are configured for Windows, MAC and some for Linux, so if you choose one that you like, let me know and I will see if the configuration file for it exists within X-Plane 11?

Kind regards

Paul

Wow thank you very much for everything.

Well after playing the demo and seeing videos on youtube i thought that maybe the Xplane 10 will run better on iMac, and i prefer performance over graphics.

My only fears is that maybe the game is so abandoned so there are no plugins actualized or the multiplayer doesnt work well, if is compatIble with IVAO.....

Overall i dont saw much differences between x plane 10 and 11?Thoughts?

Well my preferred controllers are:

Logitech 3D pro

logitech Extreme 3D PRO

Logitech attack

Logitech freedom

All of the Thrustmaster controllers xd(HOTAS,STICK X,1600M,TOP GUNS...)

all of the yolks but they are so expensive xd and the only that i can afford is CH flight sim yoke

They are all compatible with Xplane X no?

Once again THANK YOU very much for everything, i would be very lost if it were not for you...... I would add more upvotes if i could!

My pleasure, glad to be of help :-

Personally I would go for X-Plane 11, as this is a far more superior flight simulator, which is also being constantly developed by LR and for which there is a lot support, both technically and in terms of addons/plugins etc. However, clearly the choice must be yours!

In terms of flight controllers, there appear to be MAC configuration files for those listed below, although please bear in mind that these files are written for X-Plane 11, I'm not sure if they are in X-Plane 10?

Hope this helps and good flying :-)

Regards

1. Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

2. Logitech Attack 3

3. Thrustmaster T.Flight T16000M

4. Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X

5. Thrustmaster T.Flight Stick X

6. CH Combat Stick

7. CH Eclipse Yolk

8. CH Fighter Stick

9. CH Flight Sim Yolk

10. CH Flight Stick Pro

11. CH Pro Pedals

12. CH Throttle Quadrant

Thank you again!
