Strange symbol on the map

Question

There are some strange gold symbols on the map which I cannot recognize.

They can be moved using the mouse, but I really don't understand what they are and what I can do with them:

 

Could you explain me what they are?

I believe those are the symbols for forest fires. You can turn them off in the rendering settings, or by adjusting the weather conditions so that fires don't develop.

Oil fires are a terrible thing to try to put out.

Not sure what you are seeing, but my map sometimes shows birds (that turn gold when you select them), and "deer antlers" are the half moon kind of thing.
