How do I used my F-Keys without pressing the FN key?

I have seen all the different anwsers saying Go to prefrences keyboard click the thing that says use f1..... That option doesn't come up for me, what should I do?

Check your BIOS settings like "Hotkey Switch", "Action Keys Mode" or something like that. For HP computers you can read more here.
