Do you get a key when you buy X-Plane 11 or is it tied to the account it was purchased on?

I want to get it for someone, but I need to know if I can buy it and give them the key.

So, do you just activate with the product key or is the purchase tied to your account.

You can buy a product key and give it to someone else. The only thing X-Plane needs to get out of demo mode is the product key.
