X-pane 8 compatibility with Windows 10

Question

Purchased a new computer ---- installed X-plane 8.6 (8-disks) --- purchased a few years ago---- will not run on new computer

Well, X-Plane 8 was released a long ago (in 2004 for Windows 98-Me-2000-XP). In new operating systems (Windows 10) you can try run this app in a compatibility mode. You can read more about this here.
