Why does x-plane 10 fail upon starting the application?

I installed x-plane 10 from an original purchased DVD. After installing and updating ran and I attempt to start the game it fails instantly with no reason or explanation. It just says x-plane failed to start, please send an email...?

Please try updating to the latest version using the latest installer from here.

If that doesn't help, provide more information on the error message it gives. A picture of it would be helpful, as would uploading a copy of the log.txt from the X-Plane folder.
