What exactly are 2D airports on the Scenery Gateway?

Some 2D airports do not include any buildings at all. But some do include buildings. How are these latter ones different to 3D airports. Hope it's not a stupid I question!

2D Gateway airports should only have pavement (runway, maybe some taxiway & ramp pavement). If it has buildings and/or objects, it should be 3D. Please provide some examples and I'll double check the Gateway is categorizing scenery packs correctly.
