I will be running X-Plane Professional on server hardware that is compatible with a PCIE-3.0 GPU accelerator. The GPU's are rather pricy though and I was wondering if there is any performance improvement by using one.  A new GPU can cost as much or more than the server.  If GPU's really help, what models work best?  Thank you for any advice.

Not really know what you mean with "GPU Accelerator", as all modern card have hardware acceleration, but yes you of course need one to run this...

Take a look at the system requirements:

http://www.x-plane.com/desktop/system-requirements/

X-Plane 10 requires, at the minimum,

  • Dual Core, 2.5 GHz or faster
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • A video card with at least 1 GB of VRAM.

Thanks for explaining the basics... I am talking about server hardware, like the following:  http://www.nvidia.com/object/tesla-servers.html  or http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/server/s9300-x2# .  From what I can tell, there does not seem to be any benefit from this type of hardware unless it's built into the software.

Hi breinherz,

For questions regarding individual Pro set ups, I also recommend that you contact customer support directly ([email protected]) if you haven't already.  X-Plane Pro can be a bit more advanced than what we usually handle around here and I want to make sure you get the best answers. ;)
