Were you not able to install X-Plane again? Or did you install it and lost track of it? If you launch the installer and pick the update or add/remove scenery option, if there is more than one install it should list them on the following screen.
In general, you should never need to do a full re-install unless a plugin has modified default files (and often even then an update will repair them).
