Xplane 9 com port problems

I use xplane 9 and have updated it as much as is possible. I run a 4 pc setup with 3 of the computers running visuals and one running the main xplane.

the setup has force feedback and avionics  plug in to the system for my cockpit. recently i get an error on startup saying "failure to write to com3/n io err 103"

any suggestions on causes or rectification. it worked fine and then randomly stopped- not aware of any softare or installs that caused this. have also tried system restores.

due to hardware limitiations upgrading to newer versions of xplane is unfortunately not on the cards yet

I would suggest trying to check the hardware itself out as well. Does it all register on the computer as functioning? Or could some of it be failing?

Attaching the log.txt with the exact error message may also shed some light.
