I executed 2 instances of X-Plane 11 on my Windows PC with a Oculus Rift connected. I was able to use one instance with VR and connect it to the second instance on a monitor. So I can fly with 2 different planes independend on the same location. But it was only partial possible to use the first instance for VR as master and the second instance with the monitor as "Independant View". On the second instance with the monitor the cockpit instruments showed what I flew with VR, but the plane on the second instance did not move and was just standing in parking position.

I consider this as a bug. But it would be great if it is possible also with VR to have all network functionalities as without VR. I tested it without VR and then it was working as expected.

Is it possible to have independed views together with VR?

I don't think this is something we will look at adding. External visuals were a work around before we had VR--they allowed a larger view or more flexibility with the view. VR allows a fully 3d experience, so you do not need to set up additional 2D views. You would have to remove the VR headset to see the monitors, which would not be immersive or realistic.

This is true as long as you consider only one person is there. But I think on other use cases. If you want to be with more than one person in the same plane, for example a co-pilot or flight instructor (maybe both with a VR headset). Also if you want to give someone a ride on your flight. Next use case if you have a small group and want to show the others on the group the current flight in a good quality and maybe also outside of the cockpit.

These use cases are especially helpful for commercial use of X-Plane. This can be a unique selling point compared to other fligth simulation software.
