I purchased X-Plane11 and have been happily using it for 2 weeks.  I had to borrow an external CD/DVD ROM drive from work to load originally as my computer doesn't have one.  Now I'm being asked to insert Disk 1 again.  This apparently is common?  Is there a product key or something that can be entered instead of Disk 1?  We are in 2019.  CD/DVD ROMs are on the way out!  I hate to have to buy an obsolete drive just so I can fly in X-Plane!  Please advise.

Thanks!

Bryan

Hi Bryan,

I am not with Laminar Research; just a flight simmer from downunder.

Like you I have the dvd version and frustrated in having to have disc 1 inserted in the dvd drive at all times for X-Plane 11 to run.  Unlike XP10 there is no USB dongle that substitutes for Disc 1.

I understand that if you can create an ISO USB dongle created from disc 1 it will work.  There is no product key available as a substitute.  The only product key available is for the digital download version.

Apparently, like the digital version, the software performs a silent check to determine you have a genuine legal version of the software and not attempting to run more than one version of the software at the same time.

In the meantime lodge your complaint directly with Laminar as many others have through [email protected]

Good luck in trying to create an ISO USB dongle.
