Linux Installer not working on Linux Mint 18

Question

Hi,

I had X-Plane 10 working fine on Linux Mint 17.3.  I did a clean install of Linux Mint 18 and now can't get the installer to work. It only briefly comes up for a split second then disappears.

In the X-Plane Log file it mentions something about the Gallium driver stack and that along with fglrx is mentioned in this post here:  http://questions.x-plane.com/2367/x-plane-10-on-ubuntu-16-04-amd-gpu?show=2367#q2367

If this is my issue too? How can I keep Linux Mint 18 and install X-Plane 10 as I can't really downgrade back to 17.3?

Will X-Plane 11 install with my current setup or will there be the same problem too?

For this issue with X-Plane 10, I would follow the suggestions in the other Q&A you linked to.

For X-Plane 11, our official policy is:

1. Use the proprietary GPU drivers, not open-source.

2. While X-Plane 11 will run on Linux, we don’t provide support for specific distributions.

In the referenced post it says: "Install fglrx directly from AMD". That's only for Radeon graphic cards right?  Since mine is an NVIDIA that wouldn't work right?

So you can't say if X-Plane 11 will work on Linux Mint 18 or any subsequent Linux Mint releases using NVIDIA cards?  I just needed to know as if not I'll just setup a separate hard drive for Linux Mint 17 and X-Plane.

My understanding is that Nvidia also has proprietary drivers you would need. 

I don't think we have Linux users on this site, so for help with Mint you might check out the Linux forums on X-Plane.org. It might be possible to get it to work, but our X-Plane support team won't be able to help you get there unfortunately.

Well I reinstalled the whole system from scratch using the same NVIDIA Driver (367.57). For the heck of it I thought I'd try downloading the Linux Installer and try it out again and it went flawlessly. I was able to install X-Plane 10 just fine. No gallium errors in the log file this time.

Works faster and better on Linux 18 than ever...wow very impressed!!!. Not sure where the performance boost came from or why it worked on this install and not the previous or even as well in Linux Mint 17.

Looking forward to X-Plane 11!
