Is X-plane and Flight Gear the same thing?

I bought the X-Plane 10 package with the 8 DVDs but the manual is by Flight Gear. I can't find anything in the manual about updating to the newest release, Do I need to remove 10 to load the new release??

X-Plane and Flight Gear and completely different flight sim programs, with no ties. We do work closely with Aerosoft to distribute X-Plane as well. 

The X-Plane 10 DVD set does NOT include any upgrades to the new version of X-Plane 11. It DOES include free updates to the latest version of X-Plane 10, which is 10.51. If you would like to try X-Plane 11, you can download a free demo here, or purchase a product key here.
