New install of X11 on Windows 10 and find that within 20 minutes of using, it crashes the computer completely - black screen, often times accompanied with loud fan noise which remains on until I turn the PC off.

This has occurred during Training Flights as well, just recently whilst editing the Settings.

I suspected a graphics card overload so tried reducing the resolution to Medium to see if graphics related, but crash still occurs.   I have a Dell PC (i7-3770 3.4GHz with 12Gb RAM) with GEForce GTX 660 graphics card (1.5Gb RAM).  I thought this was sufficient?

Please can you give any indication as to what the problem might be...

X11 is installed with all defaults and no add ins.

Hi Martin,

I am not associated with Laminar Research but just a flight simmer like you.

Firstly, like you indicated, I would suggest a new graphics card with the VRAM suggested in the recommended specifications for XP11.  If you decide to acquire a new card stay with Nvidia for the best results.

As you are able to run for a period of time suggests to me that your system is overheating.  You may need to add additional cooling fans for the case.  Is your i7 processor cooled?

The CPU and graphics cards are the areas which are heavily affected by XP11.  More so than XP10.

In addition I would seriously look at your power supply for the PC.  Because you may be overloading the unit it will heat and subsequently crash.  I am of the opinion that it should be in the order of 600 Watts.  Mine is 860.

Hope this goes towards solving your problem.

Thanks Glenn,

I monitored the usage & temps of the various CPU/GPUs and noticed the graphics GPU temp going over 100 degrees at about the same time the PC crashed so suspect the graphics card isn't up to the job.   Strange that it doesn't throttle back processing or increase fan speed (or both) to compensate, rather than just killing the PC.

Have ordered a new graphics card & will see if this fixes...

Cheers for the advice,

Martin.
