I have a AMD Ryzen 5 1600 with a GTX 1070 8GB video card running Xplane 11 at a slow frame rate because I have a full cockpit with 3 external screens.  I have a laptop that I was thinking of using as a master to run the controls and Flight only maybe the pop-out GPS.  Currently on the single computer Ryzen 5 I'm getting about 20fps.  Will this use of a second computer laptop increase my fps appreciably on the AMD 1600 if I use it for external views only?  I'd like your opionion before buying a second copy and ripping apart my cockpit to accommodate this.

Honestly, I'm not sure if it will be a major increase or not. With multiple computers you then have to deal with networking lag, and we sometimes hear complaints of stuttering between the computers.

I think there might be a way to try it without buying a second copy of X-Plane yet and without destroying your current set up:

  1. Grab a copy of the free demo for the laptop.
  2. Move or rename the entire preferences folder in the desktop install (to save your current setup prefs).
  3. Use the demo to network with the desktop computer to see if it will work the way you want. Time spent in the Settings screen setting it up should not count against your demo time limit, and you can always restart the sim to get another 15 min.
