Anyone know of any good tutorials for navigating in vast, remote areas that are outside the reach of VOR/NDB's? For instance I want to know how bush pilots operate in unpopulated, and undeveloped areas such as Alaska, Canada, or Antarctica.

thanks

I suspect you would need to use dead reckoning as described in this Wikipedia article, and lots of math to calculate your position, drift, etc.

Pretty sure anyone flying in Alaska is using a GPS nowadays, whether iit is a yoke mounted Garmin or one installed in the airplane.  They probably navigate using the GPS then fine tune finding the airport using dead reckoning as they get close.
