Don't have a gaming computer, are older versions decent

Question

I have never used XPlane but am considering it mainly to help me with my IFR rating.  My computer does not have near the specs for XPlane 10 or 11, and I'm not inclined to upgrade to a full gaming computer simply for this.  Would the older versions (8 or 9) suffice for my needs?  Thanks.

I am not with Laminar Research; just a flight simmer.

I don't think version 8 is available anymore.

Thank you Glenn.  It looks like 9, and maybe even 10 would work on my system.  The other part of the question is about the IFR practice.  Is XPlane a good platform for this?  Thanks again for your reply.
