Whenever I log in to this site, my user name and password travel unencrypted (clear text) over the Internet. That is not state of the art. Unfortunately when I try to use https:// explicitly, the connection is refused. Why is that so?

Laminar does not want to buy a SSL cert for the domain to cover this new sub-domain maybe. :-). Still, good question.

Actually even a self-signed certificate would be better than no certificate.
