Excessive Smoke from Tires when Taxiing

Question

I'm flying the XP11 C172SP, and there's excessive smoke and screeching tires when taxiing and during takeoff roll. Once airborne, the problem goes away. What's the fix? Thanks very much! -Bill P

Hi mate,

Do you have the parking brake on or brakes pressed while doing this as there should be no smoke or tire screeching while taxiing. Seems kinda weird.

Hi Cailean - It was very simple! It was the parking brake. There are two motions to unlock the parking brake: (1) rotate clockwise 90 deg, and (2) push in. I was not pushing the brake in. After pushing in, no more smoking tires and screeching noise, and taxiing is now as expected. Thank very much for your reply, and happy flying! Bill P
