Please make sure you're using the latest installer, then pick the update option to make sure all default files are installed correctly.
Make sure you try starting X-Plane from the .exe in the X-Plane folder. Maybe this was from a bad shortcut icon?
Otherwise, attach a copy of the full log.txt after you try to start X-Plane and see this message.
