Hello,

I launched the installer for adding a new scenery (australia). A few minutes after I got the message "An error occurred during scenery installation : no such file or directory".

The X-Plane version is the 11.21r2 and the configuration is "Alienware 15R3, W10 home, i7 6700hq, 32 GB RAM, SSD 512, HDD 1 TB, GTX 1060".

It is not the first time I use the installer for adding sceneries and everything worked fine. This time before using the installer I added an ORBX scene in Australia area (YBRM), this area being not yet installed. Perhaps the origin of the problem ??

I have uninstalled the ORBX scene and launched again the installer : I got the same message but after about an hour instead of some minutes.

Thank you for helping

Please attach the "X-Plane Installer Log.txt" file that appears on your desktop following the failed installation—this provides a lot of debugging information.

Hello,

I have a problem for finding the right X-Plane Installer Log.txt : there is only one in the desktop and it is an old one (march 25,2017). Where is the last one ?

Best regards

Uh... the installer always rewrites that log file (on the Desktop) each time it runs. Either the installer is failing to write the file (perhaps because it's write-protected?), or you aren't running the correct installer. (You can get the installer here on our web site.)

One other thing you might check: if you open the file on your desktop, does it have the correct date in the first line? (It could be that the operating system's notion of when the file was modified is incorrect?)

I have downloaded the installer but it was the same as before. I ran again this installer to add the scenery Australia and I got the same error message. The log has a wrong date and its content does not correspond to what I did.

Sorry I have not found how to send the log without copying below.

Thank you for helping

Hello,

I have not understood why but this morning the log file was OK.

Hmm... very strange. It looks like the installer was unable to save scenery to disk. A few possibilities come to mind:

  1. Your hard drive is full, so nothing more can be saved to disk. You can check your free space following these instructions.
  2. Your hard drive is failing, and is not reliably saving data. You can check the health of your hard drive following these instructions.
  3. The failed file (at Desktop\X-Plane 11\Global Scenery\X-Plane 11 Global Scenery\Earth nav data\+50-130\+50-121.dsf) really does exist, but X-Plane can't access it due to a permissions issue. You can use Windows Explorer to attempt to navigate to that directory and see if it exists.

Hello,

<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]> <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 10]>

<![endif]-->

I think I have found where the problem was coming from : disappearance of some logical links to XP10 tiles. When downloading a third party scenery relative to small area some mesh may be missing. The problem is that adding sceneries with XP11 may lead to download some GB when only some hundred MB are needed to cover the new scene.

The idea was then to use XP10 tiles which are much smaller to complete the area. Logical links were created from XP11 Global Scenery to XP10 Global Scenery and everything worked fine (even if I understand it was not a good idea because XP10 and XP11 are not quite similar with respect to the mesh, XP11 being better).

When updating XP11 these links were suppressed and then there was the error message because addressing empty folders. I cleaned Global Scenery from corrupted links and the complete loading of Australia was successfull. What do you think about this hypothesis and is it possible to avoid such large downloading when small complement are requested ?

Thank you again for analysing.

Best regards

Yyyyyyeah, you're on your own if you try to mix and match the scenery from different versions. The installer is not designed to cope with this. If you're trying to save disk space, the only way we support doing so is to install less scenery.
