What is X-plane Steam?

Hi Flight simmers.

There has been several references made about X-Plane Steam in this forum and in other forums in recent times.

What is it?  Is it another version of X-plane like the difference between FSX and FSX Steam.

X-Plane 10 Steam Edition contains all the scenery, planes and capabilities that come with X-Plane 10 sold on DVD or via digital download on X-Plane.com, except it is sold through the third party Steam. You must have a Steam account to purchase the Steam version, and you must launch it through the Steam client. Since it is a separate product and not sold directly by Laminar Research, support is also handled by someone else (Aerosoft).
