This last UPdate has MESSed UP   X-Plane.    It boots and runs????  However,   The pull down menus at the top - don't "Pull Down  - Big problem,   can't change Airport etc. etc.

So What to do:  My thoughts:

Yes, I understand this will at least initially be more work.

Change the organization of the Software AND the Update  AND the recovery  Process.   So.

1.  For Starters;  Separate  the Maps from the  Operations Software

2.  Provide Updates separately    One for the Operation Software and a Second the Maps.

3. Provide roll back for each - so you can get back to your operating X-Plane.

I can provide more detailed thought but I am sure you get the idea.

Why:    I just did and upate and X-plane is broken as I have just outlined.   I have to install everything again - AND I have to do the Three Screen Setup etc. etc. and all the Yoke and Rudder Pedal options etc. etc.  What a pain!

The other issue will be - there are a number of updates since my install  DVD's  - Where to stop so I do NOT repeat this  Mess again.

If anything has been addressed on this - and I just don't know it.  Please advise me.

What OS? There's a program with a feature: Acronis Backup with "Try & Decide": You cann protect your disks before making a software change, and then try it: If it's OK you can applay the changes; if not discard them. The disadvantage is that disk writes are redirected to a special partition and are quite slow while "trying".

(I have no advantage if you decide to buy that product, BTW)

Hi Richard,

I am not with Laminar Research; just a flight simmer from downunder.

I am not able to answer your problem raised in your question heading and the opening paragraph.  Hopefully some other simmer will be able to provide a possible solution.

However I strongly suggest you forward your thoughts direct to Laminar Research at [email protected] You will have a better chance of being acknowledged than using the Q&A forum.

Good luck

Glenn
