I recently purchased an ASUS G56JR Laptop with the following specs:

  • Intel® Core™ i7 4700HQ Processor
  • Intel® HM86 Express Chipset
  • 4GB of DDR3L MHz SDRAM
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 760M 2GB GDDR5
  • 15.6" 16:9 HD with EWV (1366 x 768)

I have set all the preferences to minimum, removed all custom data and even over-clocked my GPU to near maximum but I could not get more than 16 Frames / second. I expected that with this specifications which is well within the minimum requirements I would at least be able to play the game with a reasonable frame rate.

I have tried the recommendations inside the manual to improve frame rates and have tried it with all the settings at the lowest possible setting but I just cannot get the frame rate within reasonable performance (Max 16 F/S)

Can X-Plane 10 not be played by semi-entry level gamers?

Please tell me that there is a fix for this!

X-Plane 10 is very unforgiving of Laptop Hardware (in most cases unless you have a Hi-End $2,500+ Desktop in a Laptop).   And although your Laptop is powerful for a Laptop - you can see that it isn't optimum for X-Plane10.

X-Plane 10 runs best with Full Strength Full Size Hardware:

Core i7 4790K (Haswell) on Z97 Chipset

Core i7 6700K (Skylake) on Z170 Chipset

Nvidia GeForce GTX 970, 980, 980Ti, TitanX

Your Laptop would run X-Plane 9 much better and as far as flying goes - it's still a Great Flight Sim

Your specs listed here meet X-Plane's minimum requirements so you should be able to use the sim. Try using the rendering preset buttons in the Rendering Options screen. Start at the low end and go up until you hit the unusable frame rates.

Of course, third party additions such as scenery, planes, etc, can have a significant performance hit.
