I'm trying to run X-Plane in VR using the RiftCat VR headset bridge. However, when I go to the VR Hardware tab of the Settings screen, the "Enable VR Hardware" check box is grayed out.

How can I find out why the box is grayed out?

The version of X-Plane I'm running is X-Plane 11.25r2 (build 112503 64-bit). The version of RiftCat is 2.2.7, and I'm using it to connect to a Samsung Galaxy S7. My laptop's graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M. The operating system is Windows 10.

If I edit my preference file (X-Plane.prf) by changing "_eq_vr 0" to "_eq_vr 1", then X-Plane happily starts up in VR mode. However, there doesn't seem to be any way to do anything in this mode. I seem to be placed inside a virtual hangar. I can look around by turning my head, and I can move the mouse cursor around. Left-clicking doesn't do anything. I tried a bunch of keys on the keyboard and those don't do anything, either.
