Hi, I am an instrument rated pilot trying to practice approaches on X-Plane. I do not have internet access at home, where I am using the program.

I have two problems:

  1. It appears that I will have to connect every so often to keep it from going back to demo mode.

  2. It looks like you I not get all of the options for approaches if I'm not connected. Example: I want to start on a 3 or 10 mile approach, but the option is not available. I have downloaded all of the scenery files for the US. Why is this not available when not connected?

Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Hi Pete

I'm not with Laminar Research, just a fellow simmer in the UK :-)

My understanding is that the 'demo' version of X-Plane 11 is the same as the full digital download version, although there may be a time limit in terms of flying time in one session (15 mins?)

In any event, you are correct, if you are using any downloaded version, then you will need to be connected to the internet at all times, as LR makes periodic checks on the validity of your X-Plane 11 copy and tracks the necessity for updates etc.

There may be another option though, given that you have no internet connection and that is to purchase X-Plane 11 on DVD's. Please see following link:-

The only problem with this option though, if you still have no internet connection, is that you won't be able to receive updates going forward.

Hope this helps

Thanks SO much for your answer. I have ordered the DVD version. It does state at the order screen that it can be used without internet connection. This should take care of my problem. I really appreciate your help. This should get me back in the "air".
