ATC Vectors me into the side of mountains

Question

While following ATC instructions into (or around) Kelowna, BC, Canada - CYLW, I'm instructed to follow low altitudes/headings that fly me directly into the side of mountains. Usually this occurs west and south of the airport.

Windows 10, X-Pane 11.34, Oculus Rift VR
