Your website it clearly states that the minimum requirements for the CPU is i3, i5 or i7 or the AMD equivalent at 3.0ghz however for the recommended requirements it only says i5 6600 K at 3.5ghz or better. Does that mean an equivalent AMD cpu such as the ryzen 5 2600x with 3.60ghz base freq. would not be able to run the simulator as well as the intel cpu?

Thanks.

Hi X,

I am not from Laminar Research; just a flight simmer from downunder.

AMD CPUs and GPUs will work adequately with X-Plane but it is well known by serious flight simmers that NVidia GPUs and Intel CPU processors give a better performance than AMD components.  If and when Vulkan is introduced into X-Plane then AMD components may provide an improved performance.

To confirm my comments have a look at some of the videos produced by Michael Brown from XforcePC whereby he compares AMD components.  Michael's business specialises in building PCs suitable for X-Plane and does not use AMD products.  Laminar Research recognises Michael's business as the only business in the USA  for the supply of PCs suitable for X-Plane.

The link you need to look at and in particular the videos where Michael compares AMD components is found at    https://www.youtube.com/user/col2mab/videos

If you are planning to build a purpose built unit then go for non-AMD.

Good luck

Glenn

I’m on a budget and where i look the difference between a ryzen 5 2600x and i5 9600k is over £100 is that worth the performance benefit?

Hi X,

Have a good look at the link I gave you for Michael Brown where he compares GPUs and CPus between NVidia, Intel and AMD.  It will take time.

Michael also makes the comment in a few of his videos that the products you want to use are an overkill for X-Plane as are some of the non AMD products.

When viewed make the decision on what to purchase.
