I originally bought the Virtavia C17 when I was using X-Plane 10; it does not seem to respond as well now I am on the latest version of 11. Is there someway I can restore the response of the program to the keystrokes; some of which seem to be ignored?

Hi Ken,

I am not with Laminar Research; just a flight simmer from downunder.

Unfortunately X-Plane 10 is a totally different package to X-Plane 11.  Many add-on aircraft usable in XP10 cannot be used in XP11.

Your aircraft is a 3rd party add-on.

You may be lucky if you load the software into Planemaker (supplied with X11) and then save the aircraft file(s) and try to use in XP11.  For some aircraft it does work

Have a look at the link from Michael Brown found at   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4RjIxrhkXs  In particular consider the message regarding the development date.

You should also contact the developers, Virtavia, regarding any update(s).

Good luck.

Thanks a bunch Glenn,

I came to X-pLane when Microsoft dropped the bat on Flight Simulator. It was something of a baptism of fire when I first tried to cope with blade element theory; terrible take-offs and the less said about the landings the better at first. The as I slowly learned to fly correctly, I was hooked on X-plane for it'sr realism. I spent cash on really good models; and as I was not interested in a first person shooter world, I looked for new challenges; such as trying to simulated supplying troops overseas and for humanitarian projects. The ability of the C17 to take off and land on short runways etc made it an obvious choice; and I had a lot of fun dropping and extracting Seal Teams in interesting areas. Virtavia did a nice job on the original and I was loth to lose it when I upgraded to X-plane 11. It is lovely plane to fly and very obedient if you plan carefully. There seem to be a number of things that either do not work or hang up in "11" and I am at a loss why Virtavia have not made any effort to re-write where necessary. It is a lovely plane; and again - not everyone wants to fly at multi Mach speeds shooting at everything. Believe me - you can spend hours planning a flight plan that obviously has no SIDS or STARS and where you are trying not to be seen rather than the other way round. Perhaps Virtavia feel that there is no financial mileage in the project; which would be a pity; if so I wonder if there are any other developers out there? And then! what about the Russian Tupelov - I love to get my hands on a well crafted version of that or any other similar military option. I watched the Video link and what a lot of good sense he talks.

Thanks again Glenn - noting your opening line incidentally - my wife is a Aussie - so "Good on y' mate"

Hi Ken,

Like you I am interested in Military aircraft, particularly the Caribou and the C130 aircraft.

Try the following site for updated or other developers for you aircraft of interest found at X-Plane.org

This site is not connected with Laminar Research (X-Plane.com) and is a dedicated site just for X-Plane flight simmers.  I have just noticed that they have information for just under 40,000 references.

To give the site o good search you need to register.

Hi Ken,

Have a look at the answer supplied by Ron (Captron) in the following link found at https://questions.x-plane.com/24031/airplane-model-incompatibilities-between-x-p-v10-%26-v11?show=24978#c24978

Good luck.

The developer of the C-17 has no plans on updating the aircraft to XP11. However, it is fairly easy to fix the discrepancies yourself. Mostly it involves replacing the MDU with the new XP11 version in Planemaker and deleting some extra pylons from the wings. There are instructions for doing this on the forums.

Also, not mentioned in the forums is the engine bypass ratio. A recent update changed the way this is entered in the plane description and has reset the bypass ratio to zero. You will need to go to the engines panel and enter the value 5.9 in the appropriate spot. After that, your C-17 should look and fly in XP11 just fine.
