Hi Maxim

I'm not with Laminar Research, just a fellow simmer in the UK.

There are two issues here a) installing XP11 into your new PC and b) actually running your copy of XP11 once you have installed it? Either way you will at least need a DVD ROM drive to run XP11, as Disc No 1 always has be loaded to activate the software!

Your options are:-

1. Use an external DVD drive to load all of XP11 discs and keep the software activated once running

2. Install an internal DVD drive into you PC, to load all of XP11 discs and keep the software activated once running (assuming that your PC case has the space for one)?

3. Download a demo copy of XP11 directly from Laminar Research, but with this option, you will still need some sort of DVD drive connected, so that Disc No 1 is always available for activation purposes.

Hope this helps

Hi Maxim,

Like Greengolfer15 I am not from Laminar Research; just a flight simmer from down under.

I also have the DVD disc version of X-Plane.  I suspect you have the legal version sold under licence by Aerosoft.

You need to consider the options already provided/suggested from Greengolfer15  but you also need to take into consideration the following:-

  • When you sort out how you will run the discs you definately need to run disc 1 in the DVD drive at all times.
  • It is also recommended that you are connected to the internet at all times.  Just like the digital download version, the DVD version also performs a random  silent check to determine you have a genuine legal version and not a pirate disc version.
  • There is no password required to run the DVD version.  The Aerosoft version does have a "registration key" shown on promotional document (just smaller than A5 paper) inside the dvd case.  This is not a password to run X-Plane.  It is a ploy for you to get a discount on additional items purchased direct from Aerosoft.  I know because I got "sucked" in thinking it was the product key.
  • XP version 10 did have a USB stick that substituted for disc 1 but is not available for XP 11 as it was not profitable for XP10 to make.
Good luck and safe flying.
