Though I fly on a different platform, my answer still applies. Yes you have to pay if you want a REALISTIC experience. Developers make these aircraft and thus charge money since they spent their own money and time to make it.
Look at PMDG as well since they intend to bring their products over to XP and contine to develop across all 3 platforms
