Hi J,
My flow : preflight outside of VR. Set up FMC's, get ATIS, other preflight flows.
Ready for taxi - start VR, put on headset, taxi, takeoff, climb to cruise. Engage autopilot,
20 or 30 mins into the flight....autopilot engaged, remove the headset to reduce fatigue. Disable VR for the 'cruise' portion of the flight. (ever worn a HMD like the Oculus for more than 30mins ? ).
Descent and approach, back in to VR for the approach and landing.
We use this flow all the time in P3Dv4 and we are now interested in making the switch to XPlane for it's improved aerodynamics etc.
Your answer caught us off guard. You imply that XPlane is unstable with your comment about problems and weird behavior. Baffled by that one. In P3D its a simple one click menu command to switch in and out of VR. I know many pilots that use it this way. Also, this used to work when 11.20 was released. Somehow we regressed.
When you say "Not really how VR is designed to be used".....oh, really ? How exactly IS it designed to be used ? I'm really curious.
thank you , JB
