I am running XP v 11.25 with Oculus Rift VR.   I seem to be having the same problem as I did back in 11.20 (but I cant remember what the fix was - I;ve been away from XP for awhile)....- the "Disable VR" blue button is visible on the desktop (while in VR) , but clicking on it does nothing.  Please let me know what the problem is - one of the primary features for me is the ability to switch in and out of VR without ending a particular flight.

thx all.

This button is disabled unless the headset is completely off your head. This is to prevent the VR mouse from accidentally clicking it while in VR.

Thanks !  This caused me to further explore options.  On my system, I can indeed put the headset down, and then click Disable Headset on the desktop, but ONLY if "Enable VR Mouse Cursor" is UNCHECKED at the Settings / VR General settings screen...in that case, the button does work.  If the Enable VR Mouse Cursor is checked, then the disable button does nothing, even with headset off.  Mousing over this button does indeed highlight it, but clicking does nothing.

I am looking for a quick and easy elegant way to jump in and out of VR during a flight without having to 'menu around' too much.  Perhaps I can find a button to assign.  Let me know what you think about this behavior.

"Jumping" in and out of VR during one flight is not something we make very easy because it's not really how VR is designed to be used. We also hear complaints fairly regularly that toggling VR off and on repeatedly during a session can cause problems and weird behavior, so it's not really recommended. Why do you need to turn VR off an on a lot?

Hi J,

My flow : preflight outside of VR.  Set up FMC's, get ATIS, other preflight flows.

Ready for taxi - start VR, put on headset,  taxi, takeoff, climb to cruise.  Engage autopilot,

20 or 30 mins into the flight....autopilot engaged,  remove the headset to reduce fatigue.  Disable VR for the 'cruise' portion of the flight.   (ever worn a HMD like the Oculus for more than 30mins ? ).

Descent and approach, back in to VR for the approach and landing.

We use this flow all the time in P3Dv4 and we are now interested in making the switch to XPlane for it's improved aerodynamics etc.

Your answer caught us off guard.  You imply that XPlane is unstable with your comment about problems and weird behavior.  Baffled by that one.  In P3D its a simple one click menu command to switch in and out of VR.  I know many pilots that use it this way.  Also, this used to work when 11.20 was released.  Somehow we regressed.

When you say "Not really how VR is designed to be used".....oh, really ?  How exactly IS it designed to be used ?  I'm really curious.

thank you , JB

I was envisioning toggling in and our of VR quickly, not after half an hour or an hour. As far as I know there has never been another option to toggle VR off and on, except for the blue button, or in the settings menu. There is an option to toggle the VR/3D mouse on and off that can be set to a joystick button or key.
