Xplane 11 Fails to Run

Dear Sir,

I really frustrated with this whole concept of simming. I have recently bought x plane 11 only because I have invested an expensive rig with high specs and $$$$ of addons for FSX and it never worked. Its like every simmer needs to have an degree in IT just to enjoy this hobby. I moved to Xplane because I thought it would be less cumbersome to install and use.But to my surprise.

I face problems of BSOD, and X plane crashing and asking me to email error reports. I have tries to clear the preferences folder, re run the installer, and even clear shader cache. But it just fails to run. Below is my log.txt file . Also I have no pugins or add ons as yet.Please help me out here as I am really desperate as since this expensive machine I have never been able to sim.

Hi Amaey

I'm not with Laminar Research, just a fellow simmer in the UK. I am also a qualified computer technician and built my own bespoke desktop PC.

With that in mind, I can see from the information that you have provided, that you are running the following key components:-

1. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz

2. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card

3. 32GB of RAM

4. 1TB SATA hard drive

5. Windows 7 Professional 64bit

In theory then, assuming none of the above are defective in any way, your PC specification should be more than capable of running XP11

The only further question I would have over and above this, is what is your power supply unit (PSU) spec in term of wattage? You graphics card is very power hungry, so a suitable power supply is essential, so as to avoid total system crashes i.e. BSOD!

XP11 itself, being a software application, should not cause a BSOD, but a hardware issue most certainly will.

Software could cause a crash to desktop (CTD), but as you only have a fresh copy of XP11 and no addons, then I would find this unlikely to be the case here.

Unfortunately your Log.txt file doesn't highlight any issues, other than to show that XP11 suddenly shut down abnormally, after finding all of the default scenery files.

Personally then, at this stage, I feel that the underlying problem here is defective or inadequate hardware and accordingly I would suggest that you download a small piece of software which can be found here: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Software.

This software will 'stress test' your PC to see if there any issues with hardware, including the PSU?

Please note the log file and the 2 snapshots were taken while XP11 was loading. First snapshot just when I opened XP11, second one when XP11 was reading secenry files and there was another snapshot say 3 secs before I had another BSOD i was scrolling to see the app and saw CPU temperatures reaching 70 degrees, but this snapshot got corrupted so I could not attach it.I guess the log file you will be able to understand better.

To determine if X-Plane 11 will run on your PC

If you want the game to run, your computer must meet the minimum system requirements. Recommended ones usually indicate the specs you need to run the game at maximum graphics settings in 4K and 60 FPS. The latter is not always guaranteed due to the technical problems of the game itself.

System requirements

I have watched/read the comments between you and Paul with some interest.

Glad to know you are up and flying.

Actually I was corresponding with Amaey in Africa and the problem did turn out to be a hardware issue as expected and that was related to the RAM memory modules.

Amaey spoke to the person who built his PC and was advised to swap the memory modules into other slots on the motherboard and apparently that fixed the problem :-)
